Humans lead a numbered life in every possible manner. The mobile phones form a vital part of our tech-human persona.  It all starts with our date(s) of birth. Hence, our craving for chosen numbers for  house and office address, automobile number plates, mobilephone numbers have become all too important.

A Bulgarian mobile-phone company MobilTel has just suspended the number 0888-888-888 after every single person who was assigned to it in the last 10 years died.  The total of all the 8s is 72 or number 9.  It is, indeed 9 times 8! The most potent  number in numerology by all standards. When added, subtracted, multiplied or divided by itself, the number/outcome is 9. It represents the 9 planets. It takes 9-months in mothers' womb for childbirth. Is it the occult at work...?

It is learnt  through media reports that the spokesperson for Bulgarian firm MobilTel refused to comment, informing the Telegraph that they don’t discuss individual numbers.

But the newspaper tracked down the phone number’s eerie history and discovered that each owner had met an untimely end.

The first one to die was the former MobilTel CEO, Vladimir Grashnov. In 2001, the 48-year-old died of cancer, although some feel that he was radioactively poisoned by a competitor in the market.

The number was then taken by a 31-years-old Konstantin Dimitrov, a Bulgarian mafia boss and owner of a $775-million drug lord. He was shot by a lone gunman in 2003, while dining with a model in the Netherlands.

The third and final owner was Konstantin Dishliev, a realtor-cum-drug-kingpin, who secretly ran a massive cocaine trafficking ring. In 2005, after police sniffed out $200-million of the white stuff on its way in from Columbia, Konstantin Dishliev was assassinated outside an Indian restaurant in Sofia (Bulgaria’s capital).

Mobile phone number 0888-888-888 has been temporarily suspended during the investigation into Mr. Dishliev’s death, the number is said to have been de-activated forever. Now, anyone who calls up on that number is greeted with a standard recorded message: the phone is “outside network coverage.”

However, MobilTel could stand to profit off the number by selling it to someone in China, where the number eight is considered lucky. In 2003, a Chinese airline paid 2.33-million yuan (US$280,723) for the phone number 8888-8888.

According to Endgadget, the mobile phone number; 133-3333-3333 (3 is a very lucky number in China) has been picked up in Beijing for $215,000.

An online bidder in China in last April had offered to pay 9 million yuan (US$1.1 million - placed at the 70th bid) for an auspicious mobile phone number. The winning bid for the phone number, 135 8585 8585, when pronounced in Chinese dialect sounds similar to "let me be rich be rich be rich be rich".

In August 2003, telephone number, 8888 8888, fetched 2.33m yuan ($280,000) at a special telecom auction in the province of Sichuan. The winner was a Chinese airline. So remember, consult your numerologist and family purohit next time you go for a connection/number that promises to make you stay connected till eternity or an allurement with a ‘fistful of world!’
