Stop dreaming of a really cool place to have your favourite beer as you fathom your cherished football team playing live on the big screen and simultaneously you kicking away at ‘Foosball’! You may also stop your search for a romantic yet classy corner to dine over sumptuous food and drinks – all under one fine roof.
Underdoggs (the name does smell of black humour!) a sports bar is the place to be for all the fun, drinks and food. And let me tell you, it is no place for the underdogs; rather it is the ideal destination for the hip and happening in Delhi-NCR. It is housed inside the very up-market Ambience Mall in Gurgaon and also at Vasant Kunj, though there is a considerable difference between the two; the one in Vasant Kunj doesn’t serve buffet meals and the number of indoor games offered are less. Underdoggs also runs a branch in Chandigarh.
However, one thing is common to both. The moment you enter the place, you realize how meticulously the management has latched onto the concept of a sports bar. The walls are painted with posters of sports players and different sporting teams. The longest wall is lined with flat screen TVs and big screens playing some different sports and games.
The highlight of this place, however, is the impressive number of games that are available within the premises, such as pool, snooker, air hockey, foosball (table football), table tennis, to name a few. The price for the games varies on weekdays and on weekends. For Pool, one needs to pay up Rs. 100/half an hour from Monday to Thursday, and Rs.200/half an hour from Friday to Sunday. Similarly, Snooker is Rs. 200/half an hour on weekdays and Rs.300/half an hour on weekends, Table tennis at Rs.100/half an hour on weekdays and Rs.200/half an hour on weekends is another key attraction.
Underdoggs also has 2 foosball tables, one electronic (Rs.100/half an hour on weekdays and Rs. 150/half an hour on weekends) and manual (Rs.50/half an hour on weekdays and Rs.100/half an hour on weekends). Games like Air Hockey are charged at Rs. 50/half an hour on weekdays and Rs.100/half an hour on weekends.
Ms. Neha Sharma, a regular to this place said, “I come here often for enjoying a game of foosball with my friends. I love their electronic foosball table. I sometimes also stop by to shoot some pool.”
While being are the most popular games, a unique game at Underdoggs is a life-size pool table, which is so big that instead of the balls, there are footballs in different colors to accommodate the rules of the original game. Players are expected to climb atop the large pool table and pot the balls by kicking the white cue football. I don’t remember seeing this kind of game anywhere else, and doubt if there is another sports bar offering so much fun packed in just one game.
Games are not the only attraction at Underdoggs. This is also a great place to go for food and drinks. It has a huge bar with a large collection of both domestic and foreign liquor and an impressive collection of wines as well.
You have a choice of A la Carte or a lunch buffet that is quite an attraction. The lunch buffet is available 7 days a week from 12 noon to 4:00 PM. Attractively priced in two categories of Rs. Rs. 499+taxes and Rs. 599+ taxes, with the latter including unlimited soft drinks apart from food and unlimited games, the buffet is a big hit on all days with the young crowd.
The a la carte menu has a wide variety of American, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines – a delight for the gourmet! As per the chef, their Mediterranean dishes are what the most popular ones. The Texas Rodeo Burger is heavenly and so is their Jalapeno and Cheese Dynamites.
The buffet is small but doesn’t lack variety, offering an interesting mix of Chinese, Indian and Lebanese. The pita bread and hummus are quite delicious, but the salads are limited to only green salad and a pickled cabbage salad, neither of which has anything special to boast of.
The pepper chicken that comes with the buffet is scrumptious, and so are the honey chili potatoes. The main course has 2 Chinese dishes - Noodles and Stir Fried Vegetables in Soya Garlic Sauce, both of which tasted average.
The Indian cuisine served is fresh and tastes heavenly. The ‘pindi channa’ a typical Delhi dish and the ‘chicken lababdar’, in particular, have a great following here. The desserts are a good variety of mousse, pastries and carrot cake, tasting really yummy.
Sunil Khandelwal, a resident of Rohini, seated with a group of family and friends said: “I have come here for the first time with my family and family friends. We are a group of 8 people and this place is perfect for us adults to enjoy a few drinks and shoot some pool, while our kids are playing other games and having fun too”.
Underdoggs has brought a unique, never-seen-before concept and format of a sports bar. Their buffet package with the unlimited games makes it a great place to have a day out and even host birthday parties. Their staff and waiters are helpful and hospitable. It is also great for a night out when a good game is on with fine drinks. All in all, an exceptional place to spend time with friends, family or colleagues with not a minute of boredom.
